During the evening of July 21, 2018, Ptl. Brent Wright and K9 Fuse of the Kettering Police Department in Ohio was dispatched to the McDonalds at 2166 Edwin C. Moses to assist the Dayton Police Department on a traffic stop. Dayton PD had a vehicle stopped that they had been observing as part of a narcotic investigation. The subjects in the vehicle were suspected of being involved in the narcotic sales.
Ptl. Wright deployed K9 Fuse on a free air sniff of the exterior of this vehicle. K9 Fuse worked around the vehicle to the passenger side door of this SUV and began indicating at the bottom door seam. K9 Fuse continued working and ended up indicating through the open window on the passenger side.
As a result of the exterior indication an interior search of this vehicle was conducted. Over $100,000 of cash was found inside the vehicle. Half of it was discovered on the passenger floor board near where K9 Fuse had indicated. The other half of the cash was found in a suitcase in the back of the vehicle. This money was believed to have been from narcotic sales and has been confiscated for forfeiture.
Without the use of this K9 team for this incident, this cash would not have been seized. Their excellent training and effort should be commended.
