KETTERING POLICE DEPT, OHIO
On April 14th, 2017, at 0334 hrs, Ptl. Maloney was dispatched on a burglary in progress at 2001 Craig in Kettering Ohio. Ptl. Maloney responded, checking the side streets. One street west of the call location, near 1948 Malcolm, he observed a suspicious vehicle occupied by a female and a male on foot walking quickly towards the vehicle.
Contact was made, finding the male was associated with the vehicle and female driver. They appeared to be very nervous and the driver denied consent to search the vehicle. Ptl. Maloney deployed K9 Jax on a free air sniff of this vehicle and observed a final indication on the passenger door that consisted of rapid breathing, ears pointed forward, squaring his body towards the seam, followed by biting and growling.
A search of the vehicle was conducted as a result of the exterior final indication. 85.89 grams of Methamphetamine, plastic baggies, glass meth pipe and a scale were located within the vehicle. Both subjects were arrested and charged with multiple violations, including Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Drug Trafficking. Due to Ptl. Maloney and K9 Jax’s work, a large amount of a very dangerous drug was removed from the street.
