KETTERING POLICE DEPARTMENT (OHIO)
Ptl.Hall and K9 Thor Find: April 14, 2022 @ 1000 hours
Ptl. Eric Hall was working patrol on South Dixie Hwy. in Kettering when he observed a vehicle entering a storage facility. The vehicle had heavy window tint, and none of the occupant(s) were visible. A few minutes later, the vehicle exited and was stopped for the violation. The vehicle took several hundred feet to come to a complete stop and backup units were dispatched. Contact was made with the driver and the odor of raw marijuana was emitting from inside the passenger compartment. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected marijuana and a large amount of suspected fentanyl. An interview of the driver led to further investigation in to the storage unit where the driver was seen entering and exiting. The narcotics unit responded and K9 Thor was deployed for a free air sniff and showed a positive indication on the door to the unit. A subsequent search warrant led to the discovery of further narcotics in bulk amounts, cash, and documents belonging to the driver. In total, 23.28 grams of fentanyl, 505.66 grams of cocaine, 60.86 grams of heroin, and additional smaller amounts of cocaine and ecstasy were located. In addition to the illegal narcotics, cash in the amount of $42,800 was recovered. This led to one of the largest drug interdiction arrests from a single traffic stop in the history of the Kettering Police Department. This would not have been possible without Ptl. Hall’s excellent interdiction work and K9 Thor’s positive indication from the free air sniff.
