OFFICER MIKE MITCHELL

K-9 RIZZO

CHANDLER POLICE DEPARTMENT (INDIANA)

On 9/9/2019 at approximately 0436 hours I and my K9 Partner, Rizzo, responded to the area of SR662 and Stacer Rd in Warrick County, Indiana, to assist Newburgh Police Department Officers, who had made a traffic stop on a motorcycle. K9 Rizzo was deployed for a free air sniff around the motorcycle which resulted in a good alert on two different areas of the motorcycle. During the subsequent search officers located 6.39 grams of methamphetamine, 0.6 grams of marijuana, 3 syringes, a loaded handgun, over $1,100 in cash, and other miscellaneous illegal prescription pills and paraphernalia. The driver of the motorcycle, from Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested and charged with: Possession of a Firearm by a serious Violent Felon, Possession & Dealing of Methamphetamine, and various other minor narcotic/paraphernalia charges. The driver, high on meth by his own admission, stated he had been in the area selling meth and had been unable to sleep for the last three days. He was arrested and taken to the Warrick County Jail. Newburgh Police have now advised this case is being taken to Federal Court due to the interstate involvement of the firearm and narcotics.
