OFFICER LINDSEY SCHWARBER

K-9 MAVERICK

MIDDLETOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT (OHIO)

On 9-23-19 at 0142 hrs, Officer Schwarber and her K9 partner Maverick responded to the area of Walmart for a report that a shoplifting suspect had threatened loss prevention with a knife and had fled in a red pickup truck.

Officer Schwarber passed the red truck leaving the area and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect was the passenger and immediately fled on foot. Schwarber gave verbal commands to stop or the K9 would be deployed. Her commands were ignored, so she activated the door opener and gave additional commands. The suspect continued running.

K9 Maverick was given the command to apprehend the suspect. Maverick engaged the suspect by apprehending his right upper arm. The suspect struggled against the dog and ignored commands, reaching towards his right front pocket. Maverick held the suspect’s upper arm until he was secured in handcuffs. The suspect was searched and found to have 16 grams of methamphetamine and a fixed blade knife near his right front pocket, where he was reaching.

The suspect was ultimately charged with drug possession, theft of $398 worth of merchandise, menacing, and two nationwide warrants out of Texas
