November 2019 Find
OFFICER DEVIN MALONEY
K-9 JAX
KETTERING POLICE DEPARTMENT (OHIO)
On November 29, 2019 at 1558 hours, Ptl. Devin Maloney of the Kettering Police Department was dispatched to an address on Chaucer in Riverside Ohio to assist on a traffic stop with a free air. Riverside PD reported the driver was slow to stop and both occupants were showing signs of nervousness. In addition, the passenger had a history of Narcotic Trafficking.
Ptl. Maloney deployed K9 Jax on a free air sniff, beginning at the rear of the truck. K9 Jax quickly showed signs of being in odor of a narcotic. As he continued around the vehicle, K9 Jax came to a final indication by scratching at the driver’s door seam. A search of the vehicle was conducted, during which multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia were located throughout the truck. In the bed, a large bag of suspected methamphetamine was located (in excess of 20 grams).
The occupants of the vehicle remain under investigation, pending the search warrant on cell phones seized. It is expected that one or both will be arrested on Drug Possession, Drug Paraphernalia and potentially Narcotic Trafficking charges. This find would not have been possible without the probable cause established by the usage of K9 Jax. Their teamwork and training should be commended.
