On Thursday, 10/24/2019, at about 1005 hrs, I was requested by United States Postal Inspector to do parcel sniffs at the United States Post Office, 1111 E. Fifth St, Dayton, Ohio. The request was approved by Sergeant T. Papanek.

On arrival, I deployed K9 Jax, certified State of Ohio Special purpose Canine, and took him to the third floor of the Post Office. I gave Jax the command to sniff for the odor of an illegal drug in the long hallway. Jax sniffed down the hallway and sniffed around a magazine rack, undirected. Jax passively alerted to a white envelope sitting in the rack by sitting and staring at the envelope. Jax continued to sniff around the hallway, undirected, and began sniffing a box lying next to a plastic recycling bin. Jax passively alerted to the box by sitting and staring at the box.

I took Jax to a conference room and gave him the command to sniff the room for the odor of an illegal drug. Jax sniffed around the room, undirected, and alerted to a white envelope laying on a chair by sitting and staring at the envelope.

I took Jax to an adjacent office and gave him the command to sniff for the odor of an illegal drug. Jax sniffed around the room and began sniffing a box in the corner of the room. Jax passively alerted to the box by sitting and staring at the box.

The Postal Inspector was advised of the alerts and was going to complete search warrants on the packages.

On Friday, October 25, 2019, at about 1241 hrs, I was contacted by Postal Inspector and advised of the results of the search warrants obtained for the packages.

Box #1 Contained $15,950 in United States currency

Envelope #1 Contained $900 in United States currency (Related to $7350)

Box #2 Contained $7350 in United States currency (Related to $900)

Envelope #2 Contained $9000 in United States currency.

Total amount seized: $33,200 United States currency

Thanks to K9 Jax, drug trafficking funding took a hit!
