Find of the Quarter 2020 (3rd)

OFFICER CORY OFFERMAN

K-9 CASH

EVANSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT (INDIANA)

K-9 Officer Offerman responded to a shots fired run where over 20 shots were fired. Lt. Hoover saw the suspect vehicle leaving the area. When Lt. Hoover attempted to stop the vehicle the vehicle fled and led Officers on a short vehicle pursuit.

The vehicle eventually stopped and a b/m passenger fled on foot to the east. Hoover advised that the passenger dropped an item then picked it up and fled on foot. Offerman arrived and deployed K-9 Cash on a 15` lead to search for the discarded evidence. K9 Cash located the handgun in the landscaping next to the front porch of a nearby house.

Offerman then commanded K-9 Cash to track. Officer Wiseman went along as a backup Officer. K-9 Cash tracked, located, and apprehended the suspect about one block away in a back yard. Lt. Hoover and Vehicle Video positively identified the subject as the passenger who fled from the vehicle.

K-9 Cash was able to locate a discarded handgun and then transition to a track with backup Officer to locate a dangerous fleeing felon.

Respectfully Submitted,

Sgt. Jason Thomas
